Maths
Today we have learned to use BIDMAS to order operations. Please watch the video below and complete the Maths activity.
Reading Comprehension
English
In English today we editted and up-levelled our non-chronological reports describing the Blitz. Please add expanded noun phrases, synonyms, adverbs and adverbial phrases to add description and make your writing more presise.
Topic
This afternoon we learned about rationing. Watch the video clip below and look at the powerpoints before using the rationing sheet to answer the sets of rationing questions.

Tuesday November 9th
Maths
Today the children are learning to calculate mentally. Watch the video below to help you with this and then answer the questions.
English
Today the children will practise using relative clauses. Remember a relative clause follows the noun and begins with a relative pronoun. For example Hitler, who was a evil dictator, invaded Poland. Don't forget to place commas either side of the relative clauses. Complete the activity below.

Today we learned about the following key Muslim beliefs: Tahwid, Muslim, abd and khalfa. Please research each of these words and see what you can find out.
Wednesday 10th November
Maths
Today we have been learning to use our knowledge of number facts to find new number facts. Please watch the video below to help you with this before completing the activities below.
English
This week we are going to write a non chronological report about remembrance. Research Remembrance and write your sub-headings and notes.

Today we planned our own shadows investigation. Look at the PDF below and write your own Shadows investigation.

Today we practised solving problems using all four operations. Remember to decide upon your calculation before you choose which method to use.

Maths
Today we spent more time learning about Equivalent Fractions. Please complete the problems below.
English
Today we learned how to use vocabulary with presision . We explored synonyms and shades of meaning. Select five verbs e.g said, whispered, shouted, yelled, called and place each set of words in order from the strongest to the weakest.
RE
Today we learned how Muslims like to live in harmony. We considered what harmony might look like. For example a peice of music, a team or a woven basket. Think of something that represents harmony for you. Draw it and explain why it represents harmony.

Today we continued to learn to master the simplifying of fractions. Watch yesterday's video and complete the following activities.

Today we are learning to use a range of cohesive devices to link our paragraphs. Plan in a range of cohesive devices to link the paragraphs in your planning. You could use pronouns (he, she, they), time connectives (later, next, suddenly) fronted adverbials (why, where, when) or repetition of a word at the end of one paragraph and the start of a new one.

Today we wrote the next chapter of Goodnight Mr Tom. We revisited using cohesive devices and made sure our writing flowed by including pronouns, fronted adverbials, time connectives and repettion.

Today we practiced spelling words using the suffix 'ancy'. Look at the words on the slideshow below and write them in complex sentences.
History
Today we learned about the impact of World War Two on Britain after the war ended. We learned about William Berridge's report and the reforms to the welfare state and introduction of the National Health Service.

Maths
Today we have been learning to order fractions using the denominator. Watch the video below to help you with this before completing the questions below.
English
Today we learned about Isaac Newton. Complete the comprehension activity to learn more about him. Please complete either the two star or three star activity.
Science
Today we made spinners by dividing circles of card into six equal segments and colouring the segments blue, green and red. We then threaded string through the middle and watched as it showed as white light. Have a go at making your own spinner and observe the changes.
Thursday 25th November
Maths
Today we have continued to order fractions, however we haved focused upon the numerator today. Watch the link to the video below and complete the Maths problems.
English
Today we watched an extract from Goodnight Mr Tom and identified how the film maker created mood. For example Mr Tom slowly entered the build and nervously opened the door of the dimly lit deserted property. We then wrote our own descriptions of the scene choosing our vocabulary with precision to create atmosphere.

Maths
Today we learned how to add and subtract fractions with different denominators. We used our knowlege of equivalence to make the denominators the same before we added or subtracted the fractions.

Today we looked at examples of how Michelle Magorian (author of Goodnight Mr Tom) uses words and phrases to create mood and apmosphere. Use your reading book to do this.
RE
Today we visited Spalding Baptist Church and learned that much of our Christmas traditions are not in the Bible. See if you can research which traditions are based upon the Bible.

English
Today we revisited the peice of writing we wrote on Friday to create mood and atmosphere and changed our vocabulary choices to change the mood and atmosphere. Find an example of text in your reading book that creates a positive or negative mood and rewrite it using antonyms to change the mood of the text.

Today we are using our knowledge of the inverse to solve two-step problems. Watch the video link below to help you with this. Then complete the maths activity below. To challenge you further, I have also added an extention activity today.
English - Today we are planning the build up for chapter two of our story. Plan what will happen next and how it will lead up to the problem. Don't forget to prepare a bank of effective vocabulary and remember to think about creating atmosphere through the description of your setting and your use of characterisation.

Maths - Today we learned how to use algebra to calculate formula. Watch the video below using the link and then complete the Maths activities.
English - Today we practised describing a setting. Find an image of a setting then describe it using descriptive vocabulary to see if your partner/parent can draw it accuratly. Ask yourself whether the image drawn matches the image in your mind. If not ask yourself why not and try to describe it more accuratly. If your partner or parent guessed it try swapping over. Can they use descriprive words and phrases so you can draw the setting in their mind's eye?
